An original Victorian transfer-printed ceramic tile by Mintons China Works, Stoke-on-Trent, dating to the late 19th century. Decorated in the Aesthetic Movement taste with a Japanese-inspired design featuring blossoming branches, birds, a folding fan and a central roundel enclosing a scroll and drum, all printed in sepia on a cream ground.
The reverse bears the impressed “MINTONS CHINA WORKS STOKE ON TRENT” factory mark, confirming its manufacture by one of England’s foremost Victorian tile producers.
An attractive example of the Anglo-Japanese influence that became highly fashionable during the Aesthetic Movement, ideal for display, framing or incorporation into an architectural collection.
